Siena and Castel San Gimignano

  • Departure and arrival: Siena
  • Lenght: 152,1 km

Starting from Siena take the freeway that leads to Florence and after a few km exit at Siena Nord. At the stop turn left towards Lornano.
The SP119 will take you through one of Chianti’s most beautiful landscapes, especially at sunset time. Crossed San Leonino, cross the SR222, from here turn left towards Castellina in Chianti where we recommend a stopover. Continue towards Poggibonsi following SS429. From Pogibonsi continue to San Gimignano.
Take the SP1 to the famous city of the towers.

From here, following the directions for Volterra, take the SP47.

Tour of San Gimignano

  • Departure and arrival: Castel del Piano
  • Lenght: 178,3 Km

The tour includes a first stop in Castel del Piano; from here, along the wonderful streets of the high Maremma you reach Monticiano, where we recommend a stop for a visit to the Abbey of San Galgano, famous for the legend of the sword in the rock.

The next stop is Colle Val d’Elsa from which, after a few kilometers you reach San Gimignano, the town of towers. It continues through the geothermal energy production area of Larderello, where the large smoke chimneys known all over the world create a surreal landscape.

After you can return to the starting street and continue to Sovicille.

Greve in Chianti

  • Departure and arrival: Greve in Chianti
  • Lenght: 75,9 km

The tour starts from Greve in Chianti continuing on the SS222 towards Panzano. When you arrive in Panzano in Chianti you should visit the small historic center.
Continue along the same road and after about 2 km, at the junction, turn left towards Radda in Chianti. The road becomes the SR222. As soon as the curves begin on the left you will find the indications for Volpaia.

Near Radda, follow the signpost for Gaiole in Chianti. After about 6 km follow the signs for Gaiole on the left, and continue on the main road towards Siena. In the area we recommend visiting the village of Vertine and the Castle of Meleto. After 2.7 km of SS408, follow the signs for Castello di Brolio – Castelnuovo Berardenga on the left (the road becomes SS484).

After about 12 km you arrive at Castelnuovo Berardenga. Continue on the left along the SS484 for another 6 km, towards Arezzo.
The road goes down and leads to a cross called Colonna del Grillo. From there follow the signs indicating Monte S.Savino (SS73).

Massa Marittima, Volterra and San Gimignano

  • Departure and arrival: Venturina
  • Lenght: 217,9 Km

Starting from Venturina continue for Suvereto on SS398, which rises up to Monterotondo Marittimo.
After Monterotondo take the SS 439 which leads to Saline di Volterra, where you will find the SS68 “volterrana”. Continue for Volterra until Castel San Gimignano, then leave the SS98 to reach San Gimignano.

After passing San Gimignano and arriving in Colle Val d’Elsa, take the SS 541 (via Maremmana), and head for Massa Marittima through SS441, passing through Prata di Massa. Continue to Massa Marittima with narrow curves inside the woods.

From Massa Marittima head towards Follonica, paying attention to divert Suvereto to the big roundabout 2-3 Km after “Cura Nuova”, crossing the park of Montoni. From Suvereto you go back to Venturina.

Discovering the Chianti wine route

  • Lenght: 101 km

Itinerary on the wine road, in the heart of Chianti, to discover the Tuscan red, the scenic beauty and the local cuisine.

We advise you to go out to Florence Certosa, from where the fantastic scenery of Chianti starts. Continue on the SS222, the Chiantigiana Road, in the direction of Greve in Chianti.
Continue towards Radda in Chianti but after only 10 Km, reaching the small hamlet of Lucarelli, go for a visit to the Castle of Volpaia in Radda in Chianti. Return again to Radda in Chianti and continue on ss222 towards the charming village of Castellina in Chianti.

From there head for Poggibonsi on state road 429 and follow towards San Gimignano on the SP1. Finally, continue on the same for the wonderful Volterra. We suggest you to visit the medieval villages of Greve in Chianti, Volpaia, Radda in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti, San Gimignano and Volterra.
