(the sweet spot).<\/p>\n<p>The ancient oaks and holm oaks\u00a0woods, the beautiful wheat\u00a0and\u00a0sunflowers fields and the appreciated <strong>vineyards of Chianti<\/strong> Colle Senese offer many routes through an area of rare beauty.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  style='height:30px' class='hr hr-invisible   avia-builder-el-6  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner ' ><span class='hr-inner-style'><\/span><\/span><\/div><br \/>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>From il Poggiaccio\u00a0you can easily reach cities of great cultural and artistic heritage: <strong>Siena<\/strong> is just 22 km away,<strong> Florence<\/strong> 74 km and <strong>San Gimignano<\/strong> 35 km. Or, again within a few kilometres, you can visit the <strong>Abbey of San Galgano<\/strong> or the <strong>Monteriggioni castle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The sea is about 50 km from the village, reaching the <strong>Tyrrhenian coast<\/strong> with <strong>Punta Ala<\/strong>, <strong>Castiglione della Pescaia<\/strong>, the <strong>islands<\/strong> of Elba and Giglio. Borgo il Poggiaccio dates back to <strong>1330<\/strong> and its history can be considered remarkable for the construction of major rich ancient architectural interventions. In facts,\u00a0from <strong>historical research<\/strong> we find that in the year 1380 the oldest part of the castle was the outpost of Palazzo al Piano, owned since the beginning of 1300 by Giacomo Andrea Tolomei, the ancient <strong>exponent of Sienese noble family<\/strong>, whose origins date back to the Italian <strong>expedition of Charlemagne<\/strong>.\u00a0Later, at the end of 1770, the entire property passed to the Chigi Conti D&#8217;Ardenghesca, the great lords of the Sienese Maremma castles, which in Rome (year 1659).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  style='height:30px' class='hr hr-invisible   avia-builder-el-15  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner ' ><span class='hr-inner-style'><\/span><\/span><\/div><br \/>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>In the beginning, the castle of Palazzo al Piano served as a<strong> fortress to defend the town of Pieve a Molli<\/strong>. Il Poggiaccio was later used as customs and there goods and people in transit were controlled, by charging the famous <strong>gabelle<\/strong> &#8211; that is why this place has a pejorative\u00a0suffix.
